Whether you have had a vaginal delivery or a C-section, your body still needs time to heal. If you begin sex within 2 weeks after delivery, you run the risk of post-delivery complications. To allow healing and hormones to settle down, doctors recommend waiting about 4 to 6 weeks before being sexually intimate again.

Sex too soon after childbirth may also be painful, as the vagina might still be tender, as well as dry from a hormone imbalance.  Your libido might also be a bit low while hormones are settling, leading to a lack of real desire for sex.
