Some suggestions for non-hormonal methods of contraception

  • Possibly the most common is the condom, which is apparently only about 85% effective, as it can break, or slip off.
  • Studies have shown that the copper IUD which is easily inserted by a doctor, is 99% effective and can last up to 12 years, although it can be removed at any time if required.
  • The diaphragm is a saucer-shaped silicone cup which needs to be fitted by the doctor, after which you will be able to do it yourself. If it is not done correctly, you may have a slight chance, about 6%, of falling pregnant.
